Tire Service or Replacement? What Does Your Car Need?

Tires are made of tough stuff, and they're capable of lasting for quite a long time--some estimates say that a set of tires could travel between 30,000 to 50,000 miles before its tread wears out. There is no mileage maximum, because wear is based completely on tread depth, but the common age maximum is 10 years after the date of manufacture; by that point, the rubber compound begins to break down, making the tire significantly less safe and effective. However, most tires that are in frequent use will wear down their tread long before the rubber material is compromised.

To check for tire tread depth, insert a penny into a tread with Lincoln's head facing down--if you can see any part of our past President's head, then your tread is too worn and your tires should be replaced.

However, if your tread is solid but something just feels "off", you may be experiencing tires that are more worn on the front vs the back, or on the left vs the right. Schedule a service appointment with our tire center, and our expert technicians can tell you exactly the state of your current tires.
